Orange-lemon vodka punch combines a childhood throwback with vodka and soda for a bit of bubbly. Fresh and citrusy punch is topped with vodka and soda for an adult version of what you grew up drinking.
If you grew up in Western Pennsylvania, you may remember Reymer’s Lemon Blennd. It seems like we sipped it at family picnics, school picnics (yes, at Kennywood Park), and summer holidays, not to mention the ubiquitous metal jug with a spout that was kept in the kitchen for the kids to grab a quick drink before heading back outside. I adored the stuff.
I recently discovered that you can order Lemon Blennd from Pennsylvania Macaroni Company and have it shipped to you. Then I made the mistake of reading the ingredients – corn syrup, xanthan gum, food coloring. None of which I want to consume at this stage of life.
After a lot of trial and error, I came up with an orange-lime punch that can be made into a heavenly vodka punch. The taste isn’t exact, but it’s pretty close. Add the vodka and soda and the adult version is just sublime.
WHAT INGREDIENTS ARE NEEDED
- Sugar – added to an equal amount of water to make a simple syrup
- Vanilla extract – smooths out the acidity of the orange and lemon juice
- Orange extract – to intensify the orange flavor
- Orange juice with the pulp
- Lemon juice
- Vodka – I used plain vodka, but vanilla, marshmallow, or cake-flavored vodka would all be delicious.
- Soda water – if you want to cut the sweetness, use club soda. If you want a sweet cocktail, use citrus or lemon-lime soda.

In a large glass measuring cup, stir together the water and sugar. Microwave on high for 1-2 minutes, stirring after 1 minute until the sugar is dissolved. Stir in the vanilla and orange extract. Set aside to cool.
In a pitcher, stir together the simple syrup, orange juice, and lemon juice.
To serve: For each cocktail, fill a highball glass with ice.
Pour in 1 shot of vodka.
Add 4-6 ounces of the orange-lemon punch. Stir to combine.
Top with about ½ cup of club soda or lemon-lime soda.
