Easy Hot Dog Chili is just that…easy. Whip up a batch today to sit and share with your kids.
Hot dog chili dogs are an American classic that makes an appearance during childhood, at baseball games, football games, tailgating parties, cookouts. The list goes on and on.
WHAT IS HOT DOG CHILI?
Some parts of the country refer to this dish as ‘hot dog sauce’. The chili has no beans and the meat is in tiny bits, instead of larger chunks – so it doesn’t fall off of the hot dog. It is considered to be a condiment on the hotdog, like mustard and ketchup.
This sauce, which takes about 30 minutes to make and can be doubled and frozen, works well served over pasta or a baked potato, slathered onto nachos, french fries or tater tots, used as a filling for quesadillas. Its versatility list goes on and on as well.
WHAT DO I NEED TO MAKE THIS DISH?
First, you need ground beef. If you want something a bit healthier, you can use ground turkey or chicken. Then you are going to saute the ground meat with aromatics – in this case, onions and garlic.
Next, the recipe gets even easier. You basically dump the rest of the ingredients into the skillet and simmer until thick and delicious.
Keep in mind that you can make a double batch and freeze the leftovers in ziplock freezer bags that lay flat in your freezer. It makes a quick weeknight dinner option.
This easy hot dog chili will bring back nostalgic memories of childhood. This rich, beefy, chili takes about 30 minutes and is easily doubled to freeze some for later.
In a large skillet over medium-high heat, cook the ground beef with the beef broth, breaking it up with a spoon, until no pink remains and the meat is in small bits. Stir in the onion and garlic. Cook, stirring into the beef until the onion is translucent.
Pour in the tomato sauce, green chiles, ketchup, mustard, chili powder, cumin, Worcestershire sauce, red pepper flakes, and beef broth. Mix well, cover, reduce heat to low, and simmer until the chili is thick and the ingredients have cooked down – about 20 minutes.
Spoon over hot dogs and top with chopped onions, shredded cheese, and yellow mustard.
