Why not treat the kids to a Halloween party at home?  It’s easier than you think!  Mummy Hot Dogs With Spider Web Sauce, Scary Halloween Pizza, and Bones And Blood Breadsticks make a spooky, fun menu that will thrill and delight the kids – no matter their age.

This is a perfect recipe to make with the kids and allow them to drop the dough onto the baking sheet, stick the M&M’s on top before baking.  After baking, they can carefully add the monster’s googly eyes.  The hardest part for them will be having to wait until the melted monster cookies cool.

What Do I Need To Make This Recipe?

  • Box of cake mix – I used Betty Crocker’s Super Moist Devil’s Food, but any chocolate cake mix would work.
  • Eggs
  • Vegetable oil
  • Instant coffee powder – this is optional, but I highly suggest using it.  The coffee brings out the flavors of the chocolate.
  • Vanilla
  • Both mini and regular sized M&M’s
  • Candy eyes – also called googly eyes candy

How Do I Make This Recipe?

Using a cake mix makes this cookie recipe incredibly easy.

  1. Mix together the cake mix, eggs, oil, vanilla, and instant coffee powder.
  2. Fold in the mini M&M’s.
  3. Drop the dough onto a baking sheet and press full-size M&M’s into the dough.
  4. Bake.
  5. While hot, add two candy eyes and allow the cookies to cool.

Pretty easy, right?

Melted Monster Cookies

Description

Start Halloween celebrations at home with a batch of gooey, chocolatey melted monster cookies!  They start with a boxed cake mix and are ready in about 30 minutes.  The kids will love them.

Ingredients

Scale

1 (15.25-ounces) box of chocolate cake mix (I used Betty Crocker Super Moist Devil’s Food)

2 large eggs

½ cup vegetable oil

1 teaspoon vanilla

⅛ teaspoon instant coffee powder (optional)

⅔ cup mini M&M’s

24 candy eyes

Regular size M&M’s

Instructions

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.  Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone mat.  Set aside.

In a large bowl, use a wooden spoon or spatula to stir together the cake mix, eggs, oil, vanilla, and coffee powder.

Fold in the mini M&M’s.

Use heaping tablespoons of the cookie dough and drop them onto the prepared baking sheet.  Press 4 – 6 regular size M&M’s into the dough.

Bake for 12-15 minutes or until the tops of the cookies look dry.  The cookies should be ‘fudgy’ in the center.

While hot, press 2 candy eyes into each of the cookies.

Transfer the cookies to a wire rack to cool completely.

Store the cookies in an airtight container for up to 1 week.
