Kansas City Barbecue Beans are sweet, tangy, spicy, and full of barbecue flavor. They’re a perfect side dish for your game-day menu.

Ingredients

Scale

4 slices bacon, cut into small pieces

½ sweet onion, minced

2 garlic cloves, minced

2 (16-ounce) cans baked beans, undrained

¾ cup dark brown sugar

¼ cup dark molasses

1 tablespoon barbecue dry rub

¾ cup barbecue sauce

¼ cup ketchup

2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar

1 tablespoon yellow mustard

Instructions

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.  Spray a 3-quart casserole dish with cooking spray. Set aside.

In a medium skillet over medium-high heat, cook the bacon until it begins to crisp – about 7 minutes.

Add the chopped onions and stir to coat with the bacon fat.  Cook, stirring often until the onions are very soft and beginning to caramelize – about 8-10 minutes.

Meanwhile, pour the beans, with their juices, into a large bowl.  Stir in the sugar, molasses, dry rub, barbecue sauce, ketchup, vinegar, and mustard.

Add the bacon and onion mixture to the bowl and combine fully.

Pour the bean mixture into the prepared casserole dish.

Bake in the preheated oven for 1 hour.

Serve hot.
