5 Foods to Avoid on an Empty Stomach

Our first thought after waking up in the morning is usually deciding what we’ll have for breakfast. While there are so many options around us, it can be hard to determine what we’d rather have on an empty stomach.

It is recommended to drink water before you have anything else because it can quench your thirst and hydrate you. Likewise, sometimes you’ll also need to skip a few foods on an empty stomach to avoid bad reactions or cramps. Here are some foods to avoid on an empty stomach:

Coffee

Most of us are used to having a cup of coffee in the morning. Whether you’re on your way to work or waking up to work from home, it is one of the most convenient and quick ways to give your brain the boost and wake you up.

However, this practice is harmful to your body as coffee can be highly acidic to have on an empty stomach. It can also damage your stomach line, causing heartburn and indigestion.

Citrus Fruits

Citrus fruits such as oranges and guavas may be a common way to start your day. After all, they’re fruits. What could go wrong? We’ll tell you. Citrus fruits are highly acidic and so will cause discomfort to your stomach by boosting acid production.

They can also cause ulcers and other gastric problems if consumed first thing in the morning.

Processed Sugary Foods

Processed sugar is even worse than natural sugar because of additives and chemicals added to it. Not only will consuming processed sugar first thing in the morning make you feel heavy and sluggish, but it can also be harmful to your liver. Banana

While it is highly recommended to consume bananas as a pre-workout meal, eating them on an empty stomach is not a good idea. Bananas are sweet and contain plenty of sugar and contain magnesium and potassium, leading to high acidic content in your blood.

Yogurt

Even though yogurt is a filling and nutritious food, having it first thing in the morning is not beneficial for you. The lactic acid present in it can harm your stomach lining and lead to ulcers and acidity. Therefore, it is recommended to have yogurt with something such as carbohydrates.
